Personal
My adorable girlfriend Anna-Karolina and me live in the wonderful city of Mannheim which is the capital of the metropolitan area Rhine-Neckar. For now, we have found a peaceful place to live close to quiet patches — such as the Luisenpark — in the busy city center of Mannheim.
In my free time, I enjoy the company of good friends and mostly of my charming girlfriend Anna. Moreover, hiking & sports and traveling are favorite activities in my life.
I used to play team handball for quite some years, and loved the intensity and team spirit of the game. Unfortunately, with age and career come injuries and a lack of time to continue practicing sports at a high level. Therefore, occasional sportive activities such as running, ball games (basketball, beachball) or skiing have taken over. Spending time on a golf course with my family is another of my favorites. The wonderful region “Kurpfalz” allows me to go running along Rhine and Neckar, hike in the mountains, or plan bicycle trips.
Obviously, the “Kurpfalz” does not provide all terrains to do my favorite sports. Therefore, I love to travel to far away places, do some sports, relax (it’s vacation!) and meet new friends. Recently, I started uploading photos from my trips to instagram and use Swarm as a sort of micro diary. There are so many things to do and places to discover!

Professional Career
I work as an engineer with focus on big data and machine learning topics at Google in Germany. Previously, I held a very similar position at Amazon Web Services in Germany.
Before joining famous tech giants, I owned the role of a cloud ambassador and big data engineer at SAP – a global software company with headquarters in Mannheim.
Academic Career
Before my professional career, I finished my studies in information systems (“Wirtschaftsinformatik”) at the University of Mannheim. After my graduation, I started pursuing a PhD degree and started researching in cloud computing-related topics at the Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). In parallel, I was employed as a research scientist at the Forschungszentrum Informatik (FZI). By working in two environments, I could engage in both, research collaborations with the industry and collaborating with students in projects and as a lecturer. However, together with my professor I moved to the Technical University (TU) Berlin in 2014.
I finished my PhD studies with my defense and publication of my thesis (“Comparative Assessment of Cloud Compute Services Using Runtime Metadata”) in 2015 at TU Berlin.
Studies
During my studies of information systems at the University of Mannheim, I focused on distributed and mobile systems, database systems, and logistics. Furthermore, I acquired knowledge about eBusinesses & eGovernments, business administration, organizational aspects of businesses, and marketing. I finished my studies and obtained my “diploma” (equals M.Sc.) in information systems (and business informatics) in 2009. He wrote his diploma thesis in cooperation with the R&D department of webMethods Software AG on the subject “Design and Implementation of a Tool to create Queries in Complex Event Processing Systems” at the chair of Assistant Prof. Carl-Christian Kanne for Computer Science and Information Systems.
Doctoral
From November 2009, I worked at the Forschungszentrum Informatik FZI as a research scientist in the IPE group and pursued a doctoral degree at the Institute of Institute of Applied Informatics and Formal Description Methods (AIFB) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). As a PhD candidate, I was part of the eOrganization chair of Professor Stefan Tai (AIFB, KIT). Later, the chair move to the Technical University (TU) Berlin.
